What Factors Should I Consider When Weighing Parenting or Other Pregnancy Choices?

Now that the reality of an unexpected pregnancy has begun to sink in, you have to decide what to do. Luckily for you, there is a place where you can talk freely about your pregnancy, your current situation, and your future. That place is A Choice for Women.

We provide a private, safe place to talk about your expectations and concerns. You can learn about your options and receive free peer counseling in a judgment-free zone. Why not make an appointment today?

In the meantime, let’s look at a couple of options because you and your future matter to us.

What Are My Options?

To begin, ask yourself a few questions. You may not have all the answers now, but thinking about them helps to gauge your expectations for the coming months and years.

How would you answer these questions?

  • Will I have my partner’s support if I choose to parent? Will they co-parent with me?
  • Can I finish my education if necessary?
  • Do I have my parents’ support no matter what I choose?
  • What are my career goals?
  • What is my current income?
  • Do I have the determination to parent at this time?
  • Where do I want to see myself a year from now?
  • What resources do I currently have available?

Can I Parent My Child?

Yes, you can parent your child, but it takes time, patience, and a lot of willpower. Parenting is equally challenging and rewarding.

We can help you. The team at A Choice for Women provides referrals for medical care, housing, social services, legal aid, and, in some cases, financial support. You’ll receive confidential peer counseling and guidance to set you on a successful parenting path.

Texas also provides programs for single mothers. The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) offers a range of programs and services. Healthy Texas Women provides affordable health care, and 2-1-1-Texas also offers a variety of services.

Should I Consider Making an Adoption Plan?

Although A Choice for Women is not a licensed child-placing agency, we can provide referrals for reputable adoption coordinators in our area. If you are not ready to parent or incapable of parenting, placing your child for adoption may be the best option.

Adoption is very different today. Now, it’s the expectant mother or birth mother who makes all of the decisions for her child. You determine the future you hope your child will have by selecting the couple that will raise them. You also choose how much contact you hope to have with your child in the future.

It costs nothing to place your child for adoption, and in most cases, your medical and legal expenses are fully covered. Find out more about this option to make a confident decision.

What About Abortion?

Before making this choice, learn about the various procedures, side effects to expect, and potential physical and emotional risks. At A Choice for Women, we do not perform or refer for abortion.

This is the only option that permanently ends your pregnancy.
